Hidden Grindstone Falls

The total waterfall includes a washboard cascade at the top, a vertical drop section and then a cascade ravine below. Its crest width is 5 feet (1 metre) and its height is 26 feet (8 metres).

History

Hidden Grindstone Falls was “discovered” by David Piano in early August 2008. What is truly unique about this discovery is that David is an elementary school student. He is extremely interested in Hamilton’s waterfalls and has visited and photographed many of them. David was excused from school on Friday morning (Oct. 3) so he could attend the Hamilton Waterfall Group meeting at the Hamilton Conservation Authority office and outline his newly found waterfall. (His father Dan also attended as he was David’s chauffer).

After David contacted Joe Hollick in August, Joe visited the site and confirmed that Hidden Grindstone Falls is located on the west side of the Grindstone Creek, just above the Grindstone Cascade as David had indicated.

How to get there

David has indicated that if you start out at Great Falls, there is a trail on the west side of the creek starting near the maintenance building and it will take you to Hidden Grindstone Falls on the west side.
